Awards & Recognition:
Finalist - 2018 Public Poetry Contest
Third Place Prize in Poetry Winner - 2017 LitQuake Writing Contest
Having always maintained a writer's curiosity, I’ve spent the past decade traveling the United States and working in regions from the mountains, to the desert, to the coasts. I’ve been a healthcare advocate, a yoga instructor, a community builder, a classroom teacher, a waitress, and more (short stories forthcoming!).
I have written for online publications, nonprofit blogs, and poetry collections. I’ve worked in schools and in community centers, and I’ve taught both-in person and virtually for students of all ages, from many backgrounds, and sometimes in multiple time zones at once.
My first children's book was published in 2016 and integrated into a local fourth-grade class's music curriculum the following year. In 2017, pieces from my graduate thesis won the third place poetry prize in San Francisco's Litquake Writing Contest. I’m currently working on a collection of fiction.
As academics go, I have an MA in Creative Writing and Narrative Healthcare from Lenoir-Rhyne University and a BA in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Tennessee. Outside the classroom, I completed a 200 hour yoga training. I then deepened my study of the Sri Vidya Tantra tradition and earned my 500 hour RYT in 2016.
After ten years of travel plus a summer in writing residency at Trinity College, Dublin, I’ve decided to park it back in Baltimore where I was raised. Until the travel bug bites again, you should be able to find me here. I live with my cat and raise money for the Association of Writers & Writing Programs. Come find me at an upcoming conference!
